I haven't had much spare time lately due to the work I do helping the hubby with end-of-year school and track needs. I am thrilled to be able to help him but unfortunately I have not figured out how to clone myself or bridge the time-space continuum so some things get pushed back or dropped from my To-Do wish list. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Anyhow, I am sure I am not alone in my struggle to get more done in the time that I have! So my project was simple this Easter and I did have fun doing it. </span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IfIk1ztRBVs/U1LMBJaG-qI/AAAAAAAAJVs/DQkEcBJ-5IM/s1600/easter+wreath+full+shot3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Easter Wreath with Paper Lilies" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IfIk1ztRBVs/U1LMBJaG-qI/AAAAAAAAJVs/DQkEcBJ-5IM/s1600/easter+wreath+full+shot3.jpg" height="640" title="Easter Wreath with Paper Lilies" width="628" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i><span style="font-size: small;">Easter Wreath with Paper Lilies</span></i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Supplies used make the wreath</b> - </span><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">grapevine wreath</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">2 pieces of pallet wood (cross)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">thin floral wire</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">twine</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">ribbon - blue and silver</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">craft stick</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">paint pens</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">white paper</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">tape </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">scissors</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">hot glue</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">artificial flower parts (lily stamen)</span></li>
</ul>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>How To</b>:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I used an old grapevine wreath that had previously been painted yellow. I left it that way so it would stand out more against my brown door. I did wrap it in a silver ribbon to help brighten it up but it looked fine without the ribbon had I chose to omit it. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I wired a cross made of pallet wood to the wreath. I added a little twine to the cross piece to make it look more rustic and to obscure the nail. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My next step was to add paper lilies to the cross symbolizing the resurrection. I found the <a href="http://www.abcteach.com/free/c/craft_handylilies.pdf" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Handy Lily</a> idea on Pinterest. To make </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">handy lilies, simply trace your hand on a piece of white printer paper (<i>I exaggerated the size of the hand because I wanted the petals to be wider than my fingers</i>). Cut out the traced hand and fold the sides together at the wrist area creating a cone. Now take a straight edge like a ruler and curl the fingers back away from the center like you would do with curling ribbon. Isn't is amazing how it now looks like a lily? So neat! </span><br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K7bvyQSN8TU/U1LMS5D9ugI/AAAAAAAAJV0/X_ULng94ohg/s1600/wreath+close+up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Handy Paper Lilies" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K7bvyQSN8TU/U1LMS5D9ugI/AAAAAAAAJV0/X_ULng94ohg/s1600/wreath+close+up.jpg" height="640" title="Handy Paper Lilies" width="550" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i><span style="font-size: small;">Handy Paper Lilies</span></i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">Now I happened to have some crafty doo-dads <i>(they are bundles of little white faux pearls on the end of little thin wires that I received in a box of goodies from my fairy craft mother)</i> that made perfect stamen for the center of the lily. I simply added a dab of hot glue to the wire and dropped them into the center of each lily. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I attached the lilies to the cross and added a bit of blue ribbon and a craft stick (painted black) with the words "<i>He Is Risen</i>" to the cross to finish the wreath. </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I strive to keep my seasonal expressions in line with my day-to-day home decor. In other words, since I don't have pastels in my home, my spring decorating will lack pastels (unless it's a wreath for the door). I love using natural elements and taking inspiration from nature, which inspires my projects much of the time. That said, today, I'm sharing how I created my <i>Spring Nest with Pyrographic Eggs.</i></span><br />
<br />

<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Spring is all about the birds around our house. We have 3-4 bird houses and a couple of feeders so you can always see birds somewhere close by. </span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;"></span>This led to the idea of doing a nest with wood eggs embellished with the wood burning tool. I am still a beginner with the wood burner, </span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: large;">truthfully, </span> I'm still overcoming a mild fear since it's much hotter than a glue gun and we all know how that smarts! However, I must say I am tickled with the results and it's harmonious with my existing decor. I am placing my nest and eggs under the bell jar (cloche) I received at Christmas but it would be just as pretty sitting on a mantel or tabletop on its own.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r5pVP18Tu98/UzdKXZaMifI/AAAAAAAAI_4/VSzlIdblC44/s1600/Spring+Nest+&+Eggs+bell+jar2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Bell Jar with Pyrography Eggs in Raffia Nest" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r5pVP18Tu98/UzdKXZaMifI/AAAAAAAAI_4/VSzlIdblC44/s1600/Spring+Nest+&+Eggs+bell+jar2.jpg" height="640" title="Bell Jar with Pyrography Eggs in Raffia Nest" width="461" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>Here's how I created my Spring Nest with Pyrographic Eggs. </b>Obviously, you can make the same things without using a wood burner. Paints, inks, and stamping are options that would bring a similar look to your wood eggs. </span><br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A-kcdnSflSg/UzTPkKrFgRI/AAAAAAAAI74/6qOAer02RBA/s1600/Spring+Nest+&+Eggs+bell+jar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img alt="Bell Jar with Pyrography Eggs in Raffia Nest" border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-A-kcdnSflSg/UzTPkKrFgRI/AAAAAAAAI74/6qOAer02RBA/s1600/Spring+Nest+&+Eggs+bell+jar.jpg" height="320" title="Bell Jar with Pyrography Eggs in Raffia Nest" width="240" /></a><b><span style="font-size: large;">Supplies:</span></b><br />
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">twigs</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">raffia</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Wood eggs</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">Wood burner or paints, inks, and stamping supplies</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">black paint</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">hot glue </span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: large;">scissors </span></li>
</ul>
<span style="font-size: large;"><b>[</b><i>it took 2 days to complete the project. One day to do the pyrography and the 2nd day to complete everything else</i><b>]</b></span><b><span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></b><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">First, I painted the wood eggs white. I did one coat and wasn't overly concerned with coverage. I simply didn't want the color of the plain wood. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rHFD-OI9aV4/UzSqPTbkvOI/AAAAAAAAI60/UNprrIavSyI/s1600/painted+wood+eggs+white.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Wood Eggs one natural & one painted white" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rHFD-OI9aV4/UzSqPTbkvOI/AAAAAAAAI60/UNprrIavSyI/s1600/painted+wood+eggs+white.jpg" title="Wood Eggs one natural & one painted white" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I found twigs that would fit under my bell jar and allow for a nest in the branches. I worked two branches together until I could get them to stand as a unit then I hot glued the joints just to make sure when I added the nest and eggs they wouldn't collapse. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7-_ctYVLcqE/UzTMBK6BEBI/AAAAAAAAI7k/Ek2owcryKvk/s1600/branches+and+raffia.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Raffia Nest in twig branches" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7-_ctYVLcqE/UzTMBK6BEBI/AAAAAAAAI7k/Ek2owcryKvk/s1600/branches+and+raffia.jpg" title="Raffia Nest in twig branches" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">My next step was adorning the eggs. I had no real plan or pattern. I just used the existing wood burner tips I have to do the work. In a few instances, I used the tips to create icons like hearts, zig-zags and flowers. If you decide you want to pursue pyrography check out my <a href="http://craft-d-ness.blogspot.com/2014/02/rustic-wood-wire-burlap-napkin-rings.html#.UzSWP85gJoM" target="_blank">tips and cautions</a> to help get you started. Each side of each egg has a different pattern. I wanted to practice with the burner so now I have a bunch of different looks just by turning the eggs over!</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OpkIaFWhmu0/UzStUPY2lxI/AAAAAAAAI7A/HqnbWnek6n8/s1600/quad+of+pyrography+eggs.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Pyrography Eggs " border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OpkIaFWhmu0/UzStUPY2lxI/AAAAAAAAI7A/HqnbWnek6n8/s1600/quad+of+pyrography+eggs.png" title="Pyrography Eggs " /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Once I had the eggs decorated, I built the nest. I took an empty box and cut out a circle and painted it black. This will be the base of the nest where I can attach raffia using hot glue and it is the resting place for the wood eggs. I took a handful of the raffia tied it on each end and wound it around on itself and hot glued it to create a fairly tight circle. I attached the raffia to the cardboard using hot glue. I trimmed and glued until I got the shape and appearance I wanted. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EF2oQwSEvLU/UzTMzh61BVI/AAAAAAAAI7s/Qg2jr-9ktGc/s1600/nest+and+branches.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Raffia Nest" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-EF2oQwSEvLU/UzTMzh61BVI/AAAAAAAAI7s/Qg2jr-9ktGc/s1600/nest+and+branches.jpg" title="Raffia Nest" /></a></span></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I didn't like the starkness of the raffia (it just didn't look natural) so I dry brushed some black paint on it to tone it down some. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Finally, I placed the nest in the twig branches and added the eggs to the nest. Unfortunately, I could only fit 3 of the 4 eggs I had decorated but as with all decorating learning to edit is essential so I went with 3 eggs.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VmTgSA1AWpU/UzStiB1vMaI/AAAAAAAAI7I/ZMHBRvSOagc/s1600/eggs+in+nest3.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="Pyrography Eggs in Spring Raffia Nest" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-VmTgSA1AWpU/UzStiB1vMaI/AAAAAAAAI7I/ZMHBRvSOagc/s1600/eggs+in+nest3.jpg" title="Pyrography Eggs in Spring Raffia Nest" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">It is hard to get good pictures through a glass jar but I took a few to give the full effect. </span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I-1YdrafZfw/UzSt9cUV4kI/AAAAAAAAI7Y/ZzkQgRU6W0M/s1600/nest+and+eggs+under+bell+jar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Cloche with Pyrography Eggs in Raffia Nest" border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-I-1YdrafZfw/UzSt9cUV4kI/AAAAAAAAI7Y/ZzkQgRU6W0M/s1600/nest+and+eggs+under+bell+jar.jpg" title="Cloche with Pyrography Eggs in Raffia Nest" /></a></div>

I like the rainbows, <a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/2012/03/happy-st-patricks-day.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">pots-of-gold</a>, leprechauns and such, but the shamrock immediately takes me to this Irish holiday, and, as I've mentioned before, I have a thing about wreaths. Occasions, holidays, and whims require the construction of a new wreath and, since St. Pat's is a holiday, I made a wreath! A ribbon wreath featuring the Shamrock, to be precise. Last year's <a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/2013/03/shamrock-crafts-for-st-patricks-day.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">wreath had shamrocks</a> as well, but this year I went for a single shamrock design to mark the occasion.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Once the wreath form was covered, I started making the ribbon folds (5 or 6 zig-zag folds) that would adorn the wreath, making it pretty to look at! They're not really ribbon flowers, just puffy folds. </span><br />
<br />
<br />

<span style="font-size: large;">I ran a thin wire through the ribbon folds to hold them together. You could use a needle and thread to accomplish the same thing. Notice the cut ends of the ribbon are on the side that gets wired and glued to the wreath form.</span><br />

rather than reusing, re-purposing, or recycling it. Speaking of recycling, I made this desktop supply organizer over the course of a day and actually had fun doing it! I made <a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/2012/04/swiffer-duster-box-earth-day-challenge.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">my first desk organizer</a> from recycled boxes some years ago during an Earth Week challenge and felt a great sense of accomplishment knowing I was helping the environment as well as myself. I believe we are to be good stewards to all we've been given, and that includes this space sphere we call Earth. </span></span><br />

<br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="font-size: large;">After seeing the desk organizer pictured below for $90 on a popular member-only shopping site, and then <i>again</i> on a office supply site for $40, I knew I could make my own for $0! I used old boxes that we normally throw away and craft supplies that I already had on hand. I hope you will be inspired to look at your garbage a second time and see what you can create! </span><br />

<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"> Here's how I made my desk organizer. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Supplies Used:</span></b><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">various boxes rescued from <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&ved=0CCUQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FFile_13&ei=G5cXU5PJOKWzyAGC64DwBg&usg=AFQjCNE_wkFoR-zFZiLpxhTKhHh9YGlcFw&sig2=1K9MkQwFZNkvqTi2UHjNxg&bvm=bv.62286460,d.aWc" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">file 13</a> <i><span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">(use whatever you have on hand!)</span></span></i></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Craft Paint</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Hot Glue</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Craft sticks or Popsicle sticks (2)</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Mod Podge</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Scrapbook papers </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">utility knife </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iLjbGBnA_KQ/UxfGU66x8aI/AAAAAAAAIeY/E0btF3mv0CQ/s1600/building+the+desktop+organzier+panel+pics.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iLjbGBnA_KQ/UxfGU66x8aI/AAAAAAAAIeY/E0btF3mv0CQ/s1600/building+the+desktop+organzier+panel+pics.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I used the photo above as a <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&ved=0CD4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fdictionary.reference.com%2Fbrowse%2Fquasi&ei=cpcXU8ThBbSCyAHFgoA4&usg=AFQjCNG6PcZ4vnhdQObrS6t-f-LOBrd5pw&sig2=5p9xuyhZABYAHh2sW1zlRQ&bvm=bv.62286460,d.aWc" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">quasi</a>-template. I started by cutting the top flap of a yogurt box off and flipping it over to become the middle divider. To support the middle divider (I didn't want it to sag once I loaded it with my supplies), I broke a craft stick in half and trimmed it to the right height and glued it to the front inside edges to stabilize it. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">I hot glued each section in place as I worked on the organizer which adds to its stability. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Next, I used a Moon Pie snack box to create the little cubby on the bottom left. I opted to omit the drawer as seen on the inspiration organizer.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--IsjXAEyAsU/Uxfc8adrw0I/AAAAAAAAIeo/jgSuxo7YKCM/s1600/building+the+desktop+organzier+panel+pics3.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--IsjXAEyAsU/Uxfc8adrw0I/AAAAAAAAIeo/jgSuxo7YKCM/s1600/building+the+desktop+organzier+panel+pics3.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Finally, I cut the end off of a Water Bob box and placed it in the upper right corner, to create my first storage section. I added another portion of the Moon Pie box to divide the upper right portion into a smaller section. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Once the desk organizer was assembled, I painted it black. The next step was adding to scrapbook paper to the facade using Mod Podge. It still seemed plain to me so I cut out inspiring words from scrapbook paper and added them in graffiti style. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OIvJUQyotRQ/UxfeJruvojI/AAAAAAAAIe0/JMJ8uEJZFWE/s1600/empty+desk+organizer+front+and+overhead+view.jpg.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OIvJUQyotRQ/UxfeJruvojI/AAAAAAAAIe0/JMJ8uEJZFWE/s1600/empty+desk+organizer+front+and+overhead+view.jpg.png" /></a></div>
<span id="goog_358635556"></span><span id="goog_358635557"></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I added one final coat of Mod Podge over everything. I could hardly wait for it to dry to load it up and start using it!</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D0AlFTg0MxE/UxfegzbgcpI/AAAAAAAAIe8/46dRRtjpEfg/s1600/desk+supply+organizer+with+supplies.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-D0AlFTg0MxE/UxfegzbgcpI/AAAAAAAAIe8/46dRRtjpEfg/s1600/desk+supply+organizer+with+supplies.jpg" /></a></div>

As a result, I </span></span></span><span style="background-color: yellow;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: white;"><span style="background-color: yellow;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: white;">was inspired to start</span></span></span> preparing our home for Spring now. Since the twisted paper and wired paper ribbon I had on hand were just the colors for this season change, I decided to make this </span></span></span><span style="font-size: large;">Spring Paper Wreath & Flowers. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: yellow;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: white;"></span></span></span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="background-color: white;"></span></span> <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-size: large;">To make this wreath, the supplies were simple. Of course, I started with a 14" styrofoam wreath form. To cover the form and to create the flowers, I used Wired Edged Ribbon, and Double-sided Paper Twist. In addition to the above, I used hot glue, scalloped-edged crafting scissors, regular scissors, jewelry pliers, and straight pins. </span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I covered the styrofoam form with this yellow gingham wired ribbon using straight pins, although the ribbon wire also helps it stay on the form. </span></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uUOsjycCg2Y/Uwv1eOrFxYI/AAAAAAAAIOU/-v1o4mHibUw/s1600/blue+paper+flower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Blue Gingham Print Twist Flower " border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uUOsjycCg2Y/Uwv1eOrFxYI/AAAAAAAAIOU/-v1o4mHibUw/s1600/blue+paper+flower.jpg" height="480" title="Blue Gingham Print Twist Flower " width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">To make this blue gingham flower - I cut out a circle of thin cardboard and set it aside. Then I started rolling the twisted paper around hot gluing it to itself as I went around until I got it to the size I liked. Then I retrieved the circle of thin cardboard and glued the coiled flower to it. I wanted to embellish the flower further so I untwisted a few strands of the paper and glued them to the back of the cardboard circle. Finally, I used the cardboard circle as the contact to the wreath form, again using hot glue. </span></div>
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8VLj1IDrCnQ/Uwv1iS5ETOI/AAAAAAAAIOc/PNjRmv64M-g/s1600/yellow+paper+flower.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Yellow paper petal flower with a coiled center." border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-8VLj1IDrCnQ/Uwv1iS5ETOI/AAAAAAAAIOc/PNjRmv64M-g/s1600/yellow+paper+flower.jpg" height="640" title="Yellow paper petal flower with a coiled center." width="636" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;"> To make the yellow flower, I removed the wire from both edges of the wired paper ribbon. Then I cut it into strips. I used my craft scissors to give a scalloped edge to the paper. Again, I used a cardboard circle to affix the paper petals layering them as I went around. Once they were attached, I cut them into a ruffle-like pattern so it looks like many little petals. For the flower center I coiled twisted paper, just as in the blue gingham flower above. </span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I only removed the wire from one side of the ribbon. The side I attached to the thin cardboard circle has no wire and the outer edge of the "fan petal" is wired to insure it holds the shape. I made 2 or 3 of these fan petal sections and attached them to the cardboard creating the fan flower. </span></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-size: large;">The fan flower had a hole in the center, so it was necessary to cover it by making a center "button" for the paper bloom. To accomplish this, I took a bottle lid and hot glued a piece of unfurled twisted paper to it.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">My very first wood burning adventure went well (</span></span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I didn't get hurt or burn the house down...win!).</span></span> I made a <a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/2013/05/gourd-birdhouse-how-to.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Gourd Birdhouse</a> and used pyrography to decorate it. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">I did make some safety changes, however, that I highly recommend in the event you want to pursue this craft. My recommendation...you need a better stand for your wood burner than what they sell in the kit! </span></span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">The cord would twist and the burner stand would want to tilt and that is not good...the burner tool and the decorative tips get hot! This is much hotter than a hot glue gun (my wood burning tool heats to 950</span></span><span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span class="st">°F</span>). To fix the tipping stand problem, I had my brother design and construct this wood burner stand to hold the hot burner and a tray to place the hot tips; now I feel confident enough to learn the craft. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">The first step in making these Rustic Napkin Ring holders was covering the cardboard tubes <span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">(toilet paper roll cut in half)</span></span> in green burlap using hot glue. I think the green burlap adds a lodge-like or cabin look to the napkin rings.</span> <span style="font-size: large;">Once the cardboard tubes were covered, I was ready to embellish them. I like to make wreaths for every holiday and season. Wreaths are one of those first impression items that say something about you, so I want my wreaths to convey hospitality and joy with a dash of whimsy as well as be a sign of the season. </span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Valentine's Day Garland Wreath with miniature roses on a white heart background</i></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I had some pink Christmas garland and thought it would make a cute wreath for Valentine's Day. I am a traditional heart-red girl, but I really like the sparkly pink/white of the tinsel and thought it would be a nice change. Also, the glittery tinsel is a shiny counterpoint to the soft, muted tones of the roses and wooden heart. </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"> I received the Bell Jar (aka Cloche, Glass Dome) for Christmas this year and have been trying to learn how to style it </span><br />
<div __gwt_cell="cell-gwt-uid-16764" style="outline-style: none;">
<span style="font-size: large;">(<a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/2014/01/7-ideas-for-styling-your-bell-jar-aka.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">7 Ideas For Styling Your Bell Jar aka Cloche</a>). </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Since February's main holiday was Valentine's Day, I decided to make that the theme of the Bell Jar (it sure beats styling for Groundhog Day!). I decided to start with natural elements...a twig and a potato. I painted both white and used the potato as a base for the twig so it could stand up. <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-87YNNysTNGc/Uvz9VybRUbI/AAAAAAAAH7Q/kgPZn9CY5v4/s1600/supplies+for+cloche.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Bell Jar decoration supplies" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-87YNNysTNGc/Uvz9VybRUbI/AAAAAAAAH7Q/kgPZn9CY5v4/s1600/supplies+for+cloche.jpg" title="Bell Jar decoration supplies" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i><span style="font-size: small;">Bell Jar decoration supplies</span></i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I added paper hearts to the twig, which became a heart tree, as well as tiny wired pearls. I set it on a white doily and scattered miniature silk pink roses around the base. <br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lh2QeOY-4nE/Uvz9hCrRNuI/AAAAAAAAH7Y/-aYy7av5Ri0/s1600/heart+tree+without+bll+jar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Heart Tree for Valentine's Day without the Bell Jar " border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lh2QeOY-4nE/Uvz9hCrRNuI/AAAAAAAAH7Y/-aYy7av5Ri0/s1600/heart+tree+without+bll+jar.jpg" title="Heart Tree for Valentine's Day without the Bell Jar " /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i><span style="font-size: small;">Heart Tree for Valentine's Day without the Bell Jar </span></i></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Finally I took a large glitter heart from <a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/2013/02/my-favorite-ideas-for-valentines-day-fun.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">last year's Valentine's wreath</a> and added it to the tree as the focal point. It looks lovely, and I even like how reflections on the glass create a kind of halo effect. </span></div>

Valentine's Day is only days away, and, instead of the customary gifts that the stores stock up on this time of year, I decided to make a tic-tac-toe I Love You board as my Valentine to my hubby. We love games and, when I thought that x's and o's represent kisses and hugs, the idea of tic-tac-toe was ideal. I'm going to display it on a plate stand and I think it will be a playful addition to the holiday decor. </span></span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0x2F3BLl-iI/Uvr3DGEeriI/AAAAAAAAH2c/ldPwImlHBd0/s1600/TIC+TAc+Toe+I+Love+U+board2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img alt="Tic-Tac-Toe I Love U Board" border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0x2F3BLl-iI/Uvr3DGEeriI/AAAAAAAAH2c/ldPwImlHBd0/s1600/TIC+TAc+Toe+I+Love+U+board2.jpg" title="Tic-Tac-Toe Love Board by Craft-D-ness" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Tic-Tac-Toe I Love U Board</span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"></span></span>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;"><u><b>Tutorial </b></u></span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Since I used raised x's and o's (2x2 wood squares) I would rate this as a hard craft. However, it is <u>not</u> necessary to use the 2x2 wood pieces as I did, you can simply paint or use washi tape to make the x's and o's on the board if you want to, therein making this an easy craft! </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">The first step after getting the wood cut was painting. I painted the background 12x12 square black so the 2x2 block squares would pop and really make a statement. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ys1gGN7Ata8/Uvr37SelGLI/AAAAAAAAH2k/juBtkct9Ca0/s1600/board+and+tape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Ys1gGN7Ata8/Uvr37SelGLI/AAAAAAAAH2k/juBtkct9Ca0/s1600/board+and+tape.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Next, I painted the 2x2 blocks white for the same reason. </span></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0J6VUY0pt6E/Uvr39p9tdCI/AAAAAAAAH2s/MFTPKGuzpJ4/s1600/TIC+TAc+Toe+with+tape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt=" tic-tac-toe board" border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0J6VUY0pt6E/Uvr39p9tdCI/AAAAAAAAH2s/MFTPKGuzpJ4/s1600/TIC+TAc+Toe+with+tape.jpg" height="330" title=" tic-tac-toe board" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Then I used pink polka dot designer duct-type tape to create the tic-tac-toe board. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">Finally, I wanted the sentiment I </span><span style="font-size: large;">❤ U to really stand out so I used the traditional Valentine red to make that happen. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">I used homemade stencils to create the x's, o's, I and U on the 2x2 blocks. </span></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vyfAW9KxfwI/Uvr4M0DTL3I/AAAAAAAAH20/teVqkQLPuuw/s1600/glitter+heart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="glitter heart " border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vyfAW9KxfwI/Uvr4M0DTL3I/AAAAAAAAH20/teVqkQLPuuw/s1600/glitter+heart.jpg" title="glitter heart " /></a></div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">The glitter heart was from last year's Valentine purchases at the Dollar Tree. I used them when making <a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/2013/02/my-favorite-ideas-for-valentines-day-fun.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">last years wreath</a>. </span></span><br />

<span style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><span style="font-size: large;">I glued the 2x2 blocks to the 12x12 background board and the project was complete. </span></span><br />

Welcome to </span><br />

<span style="font-size: large;">Welcome, Crafters! I'm "D". I live in the Ohio River valley of the beautiful Commonwealth of Kentucky, and I am married to a high school teacher [we'll call him the Hub since he thinks that every thing revolves around him! ;) ]. We have a sweet 1 year old mixed breed pup named Sophie. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I have been blogging for a couple of years now at <a href="http://www.theshadyporch.com/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">The Shady Porch</a>. From the Porch, I blogged about food, decor, gardening, and crafts. It was a wide scope, for sure. Late in 2013, I decided to refocus The Shady Porch to be the outlet for recipes and gardening adventures. However, I did not want to give up on my passion for crafting, so Craft-D-ness was born. </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;">I can't tell you how excited I am to start sharing craft and project ideas (and seeing yours, too!). I hope we can create lots of artsy, whimsical, and fun projects together. Stick around; we can get to know each other. </span><br />
